I don't know if this is exactly the place for this, but it is an issue of taxonomy, so I'll try it out here. Over the weekend, talking to some nerdboys about blogs, there was a feeling that if it isn't primarily made up of links to other web pages, it's "just a journal". I'm wondering if that's an archaic definition, or a kind of purism that's been outmoded? (LmWalker)

Ah...the librarian in me is fascinated by the definitional and taxonomical issues surrounding blogs. Lots of people trying to describe and catalog them, no clearcut way of doing either emerging just yet.

Some of the more interesting things I've seen on the topic of "what is a blog" are grumpygirl's cartoon dialogs ([1] and [2], and Halley Suitt's thoughts on blogs today [3]
