Annealing text happens when multiple authors interact, edit and change a piece of writing. At the extreme, annealed text has no attributation and the writers alter the work itself rather than add suggestions, provide critique or give their own rendering. The text 'morphs' toward a compromise and may come to represent the emergent group consensus and meaning.

RefactoringText, in contrast to annealing, is a complete rewrite and reorganization of a block or passage of text. The aim is to synthesise diverse comments and clarify the meaning. Refactoring is sudden and often represents a complete rewrite rather than incremental improvement. -- DenhamGrey
